The short version. We ask for your email address and your answers to the questionnaire. That is all. We do not ask for your tax file number, your bank details or your myGov credentials, and we never will.
Your answers are held encrypted for up to an hour while your report is produced, then deleted automatically. Your report is kept for 24 hours so it can be emailed to you and shown on screen, then deleted automatically.
We use your email address to send you your report. We do not send you marketing email and we do not share your address with anyone for their marketing.
This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it and who it goes to. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
TaxWizard is operated by The Tax Wizard Pty Ltd, ABN 15 699 332 833, of Suite 2, First Floor, 28-30 Florence Street, Hornsby NSW 2077, Australia. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean The Tax Wizard Pty Ltd, and "you" means anyone who uses thetaxwizard.com.au.
Information you give us. Your email address, and your answers to the questionnaire. Those answers describe the kind of work you do and the kinds of expenses you have had during the financial year. The questionnaire is multiple choice and numeric entry. It does not ask who you are beyond your email address.
Payment information. When you pay for your report, your card details are entered into and handled by Square, our payment processor. We never see, receive or store your card number. We receive a record that the payment succeeded and a transaction reference.
Information collected automatically. Our hosting provider records standard technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser and device type, and the pages you requested. This is used to serve the site, diagnose faults and prevent abuse.
What we do not collect. We do not ask for and do not want your tax file number, your bank account details, your myGov or ATO credentials, your date of birth, your residential address or your identity documents. The questionnaire has no free text field, so there is nowhere to enter them.
We do not use your answers to build a profile of you, and we do not use them for any purpose other than producing your report.
Your report is generated using the Claude application programming interface, provided by Anthropic, PBC. Your questionnaire answers are sent to that service so that the report can be written. Your email address is not sent with them.
Anthropic processes the answers on our instructions in order to return the report, and does not use them to train its models. The answers are not retained by us beyond the period set out below.

Every one of those deletions is automatic and time based. None of them depends on you asking.
Because your report is deleted after 24 hours, save or print your copy within that window. After it is deleted we cannot recover or resend it, because it no longer exists.
We do not send marketing email. Your email address is used to send you your report and to contact you if there is a problem with your purchase. It is not added to a mailing list, and it is not used to send you tax tips, newsletters, offers or reminders.
If that ever changes, we will ask for your consent separately and clearly at the point we collect your address, and every message will identify us and carry a working unsubscribe link, as the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) requires. We will not market to an address collected under this version of this policy.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your email address with other companies for their marketing.
We share information with the service providers who make the product work:
Some of these providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States. The application itself runs on servers in the United States. Where information is handled overseas we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, and we remain accountable for it under Australian Privacy Principle 8.1. We do not rely on an Australian Privacy Principle 8.2 exception.
We may also disclose information where we are required to by law, or where it is reasonably necessary to protect our legal rights, prevent fraud, or protect someone's safety.
We use Google Analytics and Google Ads to understand how people find and use the site, and to measure whether our advertising works. These set cookies on your device and send information about your visit to Google. That includes the pages you view, the steps you complete, whether you started a payment, and whether a purchase was completed, together with the amount paid and an order reference.
We do not send Google your email address, your questionnaire answers, your report, or anything else that identifies you personally.
Your browser also stores a small amount of information on your own device while you complete the questionnaire, so that your answers survive the trip to the payment page and back. That information stays on your device and is not sent to us as a cookie.
You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser add-on, and most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Blocking them does not stop the site working or affect your report.
Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest. The site is served over HTTPS. Your questionnaire answers are encrypted before they are stored, for the short period they are stored at all.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. What we can say is that the information we hold is deliberately limited and short lived. There is no tax file number, no bank account and no identity document in our systems to lose.
If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct anything that is wrong, or to delete it.
In practice, if more than 24 hours have passed since your purchase, we hold nothing about you at all beyond the payment record held by Square. Your answers and your report are already gone. A request made within that window can be actioned immediately.
Email info@thetaxwizard.com.au and we will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify who you are before acting on a request.
TaxWizard is intended for people lodging their own Australian tax return. A person under 18 can lawfully earn income and lodge a return, and we do not exclude them. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 15, and we collect nothing beyond an email address and questionnaire answers from anyone.
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, email info@thetaxwizard.com.au with the details. We will investigate and respond in writing, normally within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au, by phone on 1300 363 992, or by writing to GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If the change is significant, and we have a lawful way to contact you, we will tell you.
